This video on the History of Horses and Humans was a passion project of mine from school. I thought I’d share it with my fellow horse lovers! I hope you like it.

Have you ever wondered about the origins of the relationship between horses and humans? Why do horses and humans work together? From the earliest Eohippus a.k.a. Dawn horse to latest quarter horse, horses have been evolving for centuries. So, now you’re asking where do humans come in?
It is believed horses were first domesticated around 3500 BC in southern Russia and Kazakhstan. From there, the domestication of horses spread to Asia and Europe.
The Samurai warriors of Japan rode horses in battle. In the Viking era, Vikings used Icelandic ponies to get around. Domesticated horses were introduced into America at the start of the Spanish conquest.
Interestingly, the origins of Mustangs and Brumbies are very similar. Domesticated horses escaped from settlers and became wild. Horses that escaped spread throughout the American Great Plains as well as the Australian Outback. Ever since they became wild again, humans have tried to capture and tame them.
The domestication of horses has been very important in human history. Horses sped up travel, trade and migration. In the farming industry horses took over oxen and started to do the work around the farm. Although farmers stopped using horses in the 1950’s, horses are still invaluable as pets and, unfortunately, race horses.
